What we reveal

Each signal exposes something invisible — camera fingerprints, edit trails, compression artifacts, hidden data. Together, they show what eyes can't.

01Digital Origin
Was this taken by a real camera?
We read the file's embedded fingerprint — camera make, model, software, date. Synthetic images often lack this data or carry generator signatures.
Camera details, software history, origin verdict
02Compression Integrity
Were parts of this edited or pasted in?
Edited regions compress differently from the original. We re-compress and measure the differences — then render a visual heatmap of exactly where changes occurred.
Color heatmap showing where edits were made
03Sensor Noise
Does the noise match a real camera?
Every camera imprints a unique noise signature on every shot. Synthetic images are either unnaturally clean or have noise that doesn't follow real sensor physics — our strongest signal.
Noise map + camera physics correlation score
04Texture Analysis
Is the surface detail natural or artificially smooth?
Real photos have micro-detail everywhere — pores, fabric weave, surface grain. Synthetic images often have unnaturally smooth regions your eye might miss but math won't.
Edge map revealing smooth vs. natural regions
05Pixel Forensics
Do the pixels show any unusual patterns?
Six statistical checks — color saturation, histogram shape, channel correlation, micro-contrast, bilateral symmetry, and dimension fingerprinting. Each one flags independently.

A deeper look at every image

vs. Single-model tools
6 categories, 18 signals
Most tools give you a single number from a black box. SafPix runs 18 independent forensic signals — each revealing something different that your eyes can't see.
vs. Reverse image search alone
Sees what's never been posted
Reverse search only finds images already online. SafPix reads invisible fingerprints in the pixels — compression artifacts, noise patterns, hidden metadata.
vs. Your own eyes
The invisible made visible
Toggle ELA heatmaps, noise maps, edge visualizations — see exactly what the forensic analysis found. Pro adds PDF reports and batch processing.

Red flags to watch for

01
Hands, ears, and text
AI still struggles with fingers, earring symmetry, and readable text in signs or shirts. Zoom in.
02
Skin that's too smooth
Real cameras capture pore-level micro-texture. If the skin looks airbrushed at 100%, it's either a heavy filter or AI.
03
Backgrounds that blur into nonsense
AI often renders convincing foregrounds and nonsense backgrounds — bent doorframes, fused objects, impossible geometry.
04
Missing metadata
A real phone photo carries camera make, model, and date. If the EXIF is stripped or says "Midjourney," that's your answer.
05
The "one photo only" tell
Ask for a second photo taken right now, from a different angle. Real people can do this in 10 seconds. Scammers and AI profiles cannot.

Real questions, real answers

What does SafPix actually analyze?
SafPix runs 18 forensic signals examining metadata, compression patterns, sensor noise, file structure, timestamps, camera fingerprints, and more. Different types of manipulation leave different traces — we present all the data so you can draw informed conclusions.
What about Sora, Veo, or the next big model?
New models always leak somewhere — in sensor noise consistency, in compression uniformity, in how edges form. Our signals measure the underlying physics, not model-specific tells, so they generalize. When a signal gets weak against a new generation, we retune it. Expect the score to say "caution" more often than "clear" in the coming year — that's the honest state of things.
Is a "Clear" score a guarantee?
No. A clear score means all forensic signals look consistent with a real camera photo. That's strong evidence, not proof. If someone's lying to you about a photo, combine SafPix with other context — a live video call, a second photo from a different angle, or a reverse image search (included free). Never base a life decision on a single tool.
How can this actually be free and private?
All 18 forensic signals, six overlays, and reverse search run as JavaScript in your browser — no server, no upload, no cost. Open your Network tab during a scan and see for yourself. Pro adds professional tools like PDF exports and batch processing — utility features that don't require server processing. See our privacy policy for details.
What if the image is just edited, not fake?
You'll see it. The Compression Integrity signal (ELA) lights up regions that were recompressed — that's typically editing or compositing. Snapseed'd selfie? Mild warning. Photoshopped face onto someone else's body? Major warning. Every flagged signal comes with a plain-English explanation and a visual overlay you can inspect.

⚠️ Important: These are probabilistic assessments, not strong evidence. AI detection is not 100% accurate — false positives and false negatives happen. When safety matters, always verify through multiple channels and trust your instincts. This tool aids judgment; it doesn't replace it.
Visual check — use the Detail & Symmetry overlays aboveStatistical analysis reveals patterns, but a visual check adds context. Toggle Detail to reveal fine texture — synthetic images often show unnaturally smooth areas. Toggle Symmetry to see left-right differences — generated faces tend to be more symmetric than real ones. Also look for: unusual hands, garbled text, impossible reflections, warped backgrounds, and overly uniform teeth.
